The notorious and dreaded thugs of Festus Bumagama, the NPP parliamentary candidate for Sefwi Wiawso, led by their notorious leader Acheebe, unleashed violence today( Sunday 9th of June, 2024) on electorates who visited the registration center to transfer their voting rights to their preferred place of residency, Sefwi Wiawso .
These electorates were severely beaten with wooden sticks by the thugs, resulting in four individuals currently receiving medical treatment at Sefwi Wiawso Hospital. This brutal attack appears to be a calculated attempt by the frustrated Festus Bumagama and his cohorts to prevent people they claim are not from Sefwi Asawinso from transferring their votes.
When confronted by the people around to identify and name those who were not from Asawinso, the NPP thugs could not identify a single person who was not from Asawinso. The NPP Constituency Organizer, Mr. Frank Assirifi, who is from Asawinso, said he saw some of the electorates coming to board a car at Asawinso and confirmed that the car was not coming from Juabeso as claimed by his colleagues. He admitted that he did not know them personally or the houses they live in within Asawinso.
However, after thorough interrogations and investigations by the Electoral Commission’s Returning Officer, Mr. Kwarteng Kwesi Boakye, not a single person was found to have flouted the rules governing the transfer of votes to the constituency.
The NPP candidate has a history of parading himself with these thugs, who have been terrorizing electorates at the Electoral Commission’s office. It is on record that, the leader of these thugs punched the left eye of the NDC constituency youth organizer for Sefwi Wiawso, Mr. Dzakpata Israel, for attempting to prevent the NPP from registering St. Joseph students who were from Juabeso. He was initially arrested but left to go. He is heavily shielded by his pay master Festus Bumagama and the paramountcy. Festus Bumagama, the NPP parliamentary candidate for Sefwi Wiawso is the son of the paramount chief Sefwi Wiawso.

Despite the violence inflicted upon the electorates, these thugs continue to walk free on the streets of Sefwi Wiawso while the security services look on. We call on the IGP to order his men in Sefwi Wiawso to be proactive in their duties and arrest these notorious thugs of the NPP candidate. As law-abiding citizens, we members of the NDC are counting on the police to do the needful.
